ECIA ISSUES
The 2004 meeting of the European Council of Information Associations was held in Brussels on 30 April 2004. It was attended by: Evelyne Luctkens and Jean Humblet (Belgium), Bernhard Humbaire and Jean Meyriat (France), Roger Bowes (United Kingdom), Maria Fatima Crespo and Odette Santos (Portugal), and Katarina Wahl (Sweden).
Aslib apologised for not yet having produced the 17th issue of ECIA Views, but reported that this was in hand. It was noted that ECIA Views No. 16 was not on the website; this has been attended to. A query was raised as to whether the internal search engine worked on the site. This will be looked into - there are 10 search engines on the site.
During the meeting, a list was circulated to confirm details of representatives. The list would then be forwarded to Hon Member Walter Krumholz for processing.
The meeting confirmed that it had
previously been agreed that members would meet formally once a year instead
of every six months. This change had been implemented principally because of
the increased workload that members were experiencing in their own associations.
It was not clear if AIDA (the member for Italy) knew of this change in the rules.
They were scheduled to be the next host nation and therefore the President offered
to contact them to ascertain the situation.
COPYRIGHT
It was agreed that copyright law and practice in different countries needed to be updated and monitored following international (WIPO), EC and national legislation. There are few organisations capable of doing this as well as ECIA, and the results could be presented as a very useful and prestigious publication for ECIA.
It was agreed that the Aslib survey
to appear in Managing Information would be the perfect vehicle for this exercise.
Therefore it was important that the methodology should be consistent; this would
be relayed to members by Aslib.
